Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
Mise en scene
Bohemian Rhapsody was a single produce by the british rock band Queen in 1975 at the time it was the most expensive song that was ever produced this could be due to the fact that the song is over 6 mins long The mise en scene is important in Bohemian rhapsody as the director utilize the key uses of lighting to present the ideals and character of the band. the use of the low lighting at the start of the video has a direct coloration with the songs lyrics, considering that the song starts of slower. at the start the members of the band are positioned so that only parts of their face are shown, this is accomplished through the use of shadows. later on in the video as the song gets more up beat and faster paced we start to get more light that changes the mood of the shots.additionally the shots of the bad performing on stage provides the audience to see the dress code the band had installed for the video. they have decided to take a futuristic approach to their costume designs. the silver one pace outfit some what connotes alien forms, this could be a metaphor from the band suggesting that their music is out of this world. also the hair stlye taken up by the band and the fact that Freddie Mercury is seen wearing eye shadow, this was unseen before in the rock genera.
camerawork
the most recognizable aspect of the videos camera work would be from the beginning of the video when we see all the members of the bend in a close up, with the Gothic style lighting shining on their face. also the close ups the audience reeves of Freddie Mercury depicts him as the lead role of the band and this should be so as Mercury was the one who wrote the song and was the one with the most influence on how the video should be shown.
editing and sound
in the video we our subjects to great use of editing this is evident in the shots where we see multiple of the bands heads on the screen at once singing in unison. this is also seen when the members of the band are seen apearing on screen to the like lighting in unison to the songs beat. the use of fades through the video creates a mysterious atmosphere
representation
Mercury parents were deeply involved in Zoroastrianism and these arabic words do have a meaning in that religion. his family grew up in Zanzibar but was forced out by a government up heavy in 1964 and they then moved away to England. so Bohemian is the native people of Bohemia in the Czech Republic who where commonly seen as travellers. and in french the word means Gyps this could suggest that the song title is about the movement of people for instance Freddie Mercury when he was younger. so many people represent the song to have that meaning, they believe that the story is about Mercury story to get to England and the troubles he had.

Turn-wombats.
lyrics
I jump from thought to thought like a flea jumps to a light
You could give an aspirin the headache of its life
Maybe it's the crazy that I'd miss
Watering plastic plants in the hope that they'll grow
Seeing a message flash and then smashing up my phone
Maybe it's the crazy that I'd miss
It won't get better than this
You could give an aspirin the headache of its life
Maybe it's the crazy that I'd miss
Watering plastic plants in the hope that they'll grow
Seeing a message flash and then smashing up my phone
Maybe it's the crazy that I'd miss
It won't get better than this
I like the way your brain works, I like the way you try
To run with the wolf pack when your legs are tired
I like the way you turn me inside and out
I like the way you turn
I like the way your brain works
I like the way your brain works
To run with the wolf pack when your legs are tired
I like the way you turn me inside and out
I like the way you turn
I like the way your brain works
I like the way your brain works
I want to get college girl drunk tonight
No morning fears, no mountains to climb
They say the best memories are the ones that we forget
Like listening to Drake at your best friend's swimming pool
Floating…anti-clockwise in a red mushroom
No morning fears, no mountains to climb
They say the best memories are the ones that we forget
Like listening to Drake at your best friend's swimming pool
Floating…anti-clockwise in a red mushroom
Maybe it's the crazy that I'd miss
It won't get better than this
It won't get better than this
And maybe it's the bullshit I'd miss
Screaming at the moon in black lipstick
Maybe it's the bullshit I'd miss
It won't get better than this
The opening verse of the song is linked to the the opening of the video as we see the artist turning in a sircal this is a direct link to the songs title 'turn' he is then surrounded by dolls that are frozen in time whilst acting out the lyric he is sing at the time. this effects the audience in away as such that although the concept is easy to understand their is a complexity and deeper meaning behind it. for example 'watering plastic plants in hoping that they would grow' this line connotes that the girl is so crazy as plastic can not grow but it could have a deeper meaning behind it like the fact that she is trying to help save a relationship but what ever she tries it wont head in the right direction
the lighting throughout the video is low but bright, as the foreground of each shot is light whilst the rest isnt. it feels like the director is drying to place the audience into the girls head to try figure what shes thinking and feeling. we see this through the story's of the doll or manikin.
